According to legend, early in the 2nd Century AD, the famed Ninth Legion Hispana (Legio IX Hispana) marched northward from Eboracum in the Roman Province of Britannia, disappearing into the mists never to be heard from again. Many assume that the legion was completely wiped out…but what if a small handful of soldiers actually managed to survive the massacre? Last Men of the Ninth attempts to tell that story.
I’m looking for accomplished writers who can place themselves into the mindset of a Roman legionary foot soldier who is pretty much experiencing the worst day of his life.
Writing Style: Third Person Past Tense.
Game Style: Please note that this is a story where characters can and will die. We’re using the “gritty” card deck meaning that you’ll have more Weakness cards and fewer Strength cards than normal. If a challenge results in a Weak outcome, expect something bad to happen to one of the Player Characters. The actual mechanics of that will be described in a later section, but understand that if your character dies, he’s done for the remainder of the story.
Although your character may be dead, that doesn’t necessarily mean that you’re finished as a player. There will be a number of Non-Player Characters (NPCs) who will be a part of the story. If your main guy gets killed, you have the option of continuing the game as one of the NPC’s.
Your Character. Players will choose their Character from among a list of pre-made Romans. (This will balance the cast with realistic characters, and it avoids me having to hurt the feelings of somebody who might put a lot of loving but wasted effort into creating & submitting a “Samurai Princess” character–complete with AI-generated anime avatar.)
